Why Computer-Based Testing (CBT) Is Best Option For Examinations-Expert
By David Adeoye
The use of Computer-Based Testing (CBT) in conducting examinations has been described as the best option to develop the nation’s educational systems and establishments.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Educational Advancement Centre, Mr Muyiwa Bamgbose, said this while speaking with newsmen in Ibadan on Friday.
Bamgbose, a computer expert, was passing comments on the recent examination conducted via CBT for 50,000 applicants for teaching appointments with the Oyo State Government.
As a consultant to the Oyo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), the organiser of the examination, he attributed its success to the use of CBT.
He said the examination, earlier scheduled for five days but compressed to three days, due to the nationwide protest, wouldn’t have been successful had CBT not been adopted.
According to him, apart from the fact that CBT or E-testing is effective in the conduct of national examinations, it is also more efficient than paper-based tests.
“Another advantage of CBT is speed, thus giving the chance to deal with many people simultaneously at minimal time.
“It eliminates all forms of examination malpractices and promotes transparency.
“Its use will also enhance the quick and accurate release of examination results,” he said.
He, therefore, urged the federal and state governments, including private establishments to conduct their different examinations using CBT.
According to him, the computer age has taken over the dark age and employers must seek digitally competent employees.
“We are in the days of digital literacy and digital economy,” he said.
